Apesar de ter sido divulgado pelos portais de imprensa, Notícias de Ipiaú, Terra Brasil, Agência Atarde e Correio, a informação que os cinco jovens que morreram no trágico acidente na cidade Ipiaú, estavam sendo perseguidos pela polícia militar de Barra do Rocha, o comandante da 55ª CIPM, Major Anderson Castro, negou que tivesse ocorrido alguma perseguição. Segundo o Major, os jovens teriam saído de Barra Rocha após executarem uma série de irregularidades no trânsito, como giros de 180º de frente e de ré (conhecidos como cavalos-de-pau), direção periosa e alta velocidade. Salientou ainda, que se tivesse acontecido a perseguição policial, os jovens teriam sido autuados e presos.
